I just finsihed watching "Svět pod hlavou" a Czech series inspired by "Life on Mars", where the main character ends up in a communist totalitarian Czechoslovakia, where what the party needs is more important than truth, I do recommend it for anyone reading, but I'm not sure if it's in English. 🤷 I'll have to check out "Life on Mars", then.

Pertwee does have a few average stories, but his dalek ones are great. Day of the daleks is ace - especially the special edition (although I actually like the dalek voices for nostalgia reasons) and planet of the daleks is one of the best. Death to the daleks would have been great if not for the comedy music

If Davison isn't the weakest Doctor of the classic series, then who is? All of the other classic Doctors are leagues ahead. Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Tom Baker, Colin Baker, and McCoy are all incredible in their own right. None of them are remotely weak in their portrayals. Davison is very much so the weakest link there. Like Jodie is for new who.

Yeah, he's very boring. He's very much so my least favorite Doctor. He consistently feels like a companion to me. Very rarely does he ever feel like the Doctor. He's more so just there, observing the plot rather than getting involved in it. I'm an audio fan over tv fan and on audio he's not much better. He's still just as boring as he was on tv. I stopped listening to Fifth Doctor audios long ago and only hear him in multi-Doctor stories where I'm reminded he exists. Mostly I just wait until he finishes talking so the real Doctors can solve the plot. For me the companions are way better. I adore Adric, but I'm in the minority on that. Nyssa is definitely the text book wasted potential. She has the most interesting potential backstory and story, but she just ends up being just as boring as the Fifth Doctor. And I like Tegan and Turlough quite a lot. Peri is one of my favorite companions on audio. On tv she's a bit weaker.

Peter Davison is my favorite as I could connect with him more than with any other doctor. He's kind and loving and caring but lots of bad stuff happens to him, so he has to make a lot of difficult decisions and grow among his companions more than any doctor ever. His regeneration coming from sacrifising himself to save Peri after all he had lost (like Adric) is the perfect ending to his doctor. Forever MY doctor❤

My first introduction was in 1984: The Pirate Planet. It's towards the end of Tom's time, and in the middle of a season-long arc, and I think that just added to the attraction: realising that I was toeing into the edge of something epic. Written by Douglas Adams, it's also just a fantastic story by itself. I'd also say that if you possibly can, get the older stories in episode format rather than spliced together. The pacing is very much designed for that.

I've tried multiple times to start Classic Who from the beginning. Because it's so 60's paced (and even for the 60's it's padded), I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. I genuinely liked it fine, but I also burnt myself out trying to binge it. Made it as far as the Keys of Marinus, then The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Besides that I've seen The Three Doctors, Genesis of the Daleks, and to prep for the 60th, I watched the Celestial Toymaker. Trying again, just starting with Dalek Invasion onwards, and I don't want to go out of order, but I don't know how much to limit myself. To fast and I burn out again? To slow and it takes me years. Any advice?

My introduction to Classic Who was Destiny Of The Daleks. After finishing the 9th and 10th Doctors' runs, I wanted to see what the classic series was like, and I really like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As a result, I got Tom Baker's sixth season on BluRay, since Douglas Adams was involved in writing that season.

I enjoyed Mask of Mandragora. I think Revenge of the Cybemen is unfortunately one of the worst stories of the classic series. It's so boring and the cybermen sound awful. Not remotely creepy.

I think that the reason the 13th Doctor was able to make a new sonic is that it’s fairly basic in terms of gallifreyan tech. They’re not beginner level engineering or anything, but they’re easy to make if you know how.

Day of the Daleks is ACE!

IMO Season 25 is the best one. Pertwee had some of my favourite stories and Tom Baker, but the season with Revenge of the Cybermen is ruined by this story. It's so boring and the Cybermen are rubbish in it.

No Way Donna is in 'S' tier - I found her so annoying. 'S' is for royalty like Brigadier, Ace, Jo Grant and Sarah Jane... Maybe Rose

Terrible era, it's way too self indulgent now. I loved the bit with Sylvestor and Ace, but that was all. And what does that tell you?

That moment when I’m probably the only Whovian to actually have a soft spot for Warriors of The Deep 😅. I’m not saying it’s good by any means it’s very bad but I do get some entertainment from it. I’m actually surprised that Destiny of the Daleks, Revenge Of The Cybermen, or happiness Patrol aren’t on the list. Xx

The writing is awful in 'new who'. Not saying this to be like 'the classic ones were better' (they kind of were) I loved Eccleston and early Tennent - but it all became too 'the legend of the Doctor' every episode - too pretentious and less creepy/fun.

I have a soft spot for Silver Nemesis. I remember watching it live on TV as a kid and thinking the Cybermen were really cool. Like these creepy unstoppable Silent (don't remember them talking) killers that ran (They never run) all over the place. So my memory of this story was that it was great. Re watching it as an adult it is nothing like I remember and is a bit crap apart from the end in the hangar - but I still like it for nostalgia reasons.

Never got why people hate the idiots lantern, I find the villain so good

I notice you didn't mention Twin Dillema in S21 - that story is an utter insult to the rest of the season, especially after Caves

I'm watching it for thr first time and everything you said is exactly what I feel. She doesn't act like the doctor, I don't remember anything about any episode as soon as they finnish. They have some good idea but that's it, the companions are useless. It's just shite and hollow

life on mars was good and i love sam, but i prefer ashes to ashes too honestly. life on mars definitely is required viewing though i feel bc not only is it a good show in its own right but it also gives ashes to ashes more context and emotional impact, and especially season 3 doesn't really work if you don't know who sam is and don't care about him. i basically agree with almost everything you say here, save for a few little things. i love the ending too and yeah, it's fucking heartbreaking, shocking and haunting. one of the best shows ever, truly.
